2008 Top Ten Business Women of ABWA
ABWA

March 25, 2008

Ten remarkable women from around the nation have been chosen as the American Business Women’s 2008 Top Ten Business Women of ABWA. For more than 50 years, ABWA's Top Ten program has annually honored 10 outstanding members of ABWA for achieving excellence in career, education and community involvement. Each chapter or Express Network has the opportunity to nominate a Top Ten candidate. The Top Ten are selected by a panel of three judges.

The winners of the 2008 Top Ten Business Women of ABWA were chosen for their numerous career and philanthropic achievements, as well as for their ability to demonstrate how their involvement in the Association has contributed directly to their career achievements.

--------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Julie Kangas - Escondido, Calif.
Escondido, Calif. / Soaring Eagles Chapter
Dentist/Owner / Citracado Dental Group

Many of my ABWA colleagues are small business owners like myself, and face the same types of challenges I deal with on a regular basis. We all must build our own businesses by finding and keeping clients, managing our finances and creating a business structure and culture that will fuel growth and help us stay focused on our goals. My leadership roles in ABWA have helped me increase my business knowledge and provide a way to help other women also."

--------------------------------------------------------
Tina Ackles - Killeen, Texas
Globe Chapter
Associate / Booz Allen Hamilton

"Having completed many continuing education credits through ABWA and through my various committee and board assignments, I have greatly improved my leadership skills and public speaking skills. I was able to submit my CEU credits to our corporate training officer and have them added to my training file. I believe this helped me secure my latest promotion. ABWA has made me feel like a part of something great! I have made so many connections, not only in my chapter, but throughout the U.S. through our organization."

--------------------------------------------------------
Janet Deyette - Deltona, Fla.
Four Townes Charter Chapter
Tax Accountant/Real Estate Broker-Associate / Co-owner - Tri County Financial Services

"ABWA membership has provided support throughout my educational journey and has taken me from office administration positions all the way to co-ownership of a vibrant dual-service business providing commercial leasing and management with accounting and tax preparation."

--------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Rebecca Pulliam Francis - Smithfield, N.C.
Johnston Charter Chapter
Instructor/Coordinator-Basic Skills ILC / Wake Technical Community College

"Much of the credit for the development of my leadership and team building skills I give to my 19 years in ABWA. The Johnston Charter Chapter has served as a safe incubator to learn and practice skills. The chapter and national organization have provided friendships and a network to support my personal growth, self-confidence and communication skills."
